Lore Power Usage Example

Parent Lore: Lore of Paths
Power Name: Close Path

Example Scenario

Demon Character: Azazel
Scene: In an abandoned urban alleyway known to harbor supernatural activities, Azazel needs to trap a group of hunters who have been tailing him. Knowing the hunters' escape route through a narrow, eerie alleyway that spans approximately 300 yards, Azazel decides to use his power to Close the Path and temporarily trap them.

Dice Roll Results

  • Trait Level: Dexterity 3 + Survival 2 = 5 dice
  • Difficulty: 6
  • Dice Roll Results: 8, 5, 6, 6, 3
  • Successes: 3 (equal to the length of the path in hundreds of yards)

Outcome

Azazel spends a point of Faith and utters the incantation, sealing both ends of the alleyway. The hunters, unaware of their impending imprisonment, enter the path and find themselves trapped. Azazel successfully closes the path with 3 successes, matching the required number of successes for the 300-yard alleyway.

Muttering an additional string of arcane words, Azazel sets a keyword for his loyal thralls, should they need to access the closed path:

"Ignis Veritas"

Azazel's Willpower when closing the path is 8, and his current Faith score is 4.

Attempt to Force Open the Path

The hunters, realizing they are trapped, try to force their way out. They decide to make an extended Willpower roll.

Dice Roll Results

  • Hunters' Willpower: 5 (each hunter rolls separately)
  • Difficulty: 8 (Azazel’s Willpower at the time of closing)
  • Dice Roll Results Hunter 1: 7, 9, 3, 6, 2 (1 success)
  • Dice Roll Results Hunter 2: 5, 9, 8, 4, 10 (3 successes)
  • Required Successes: 4 (Azazel's current Faith)

Outcome

Hunter 1 fails to gather enough successes in the extended rolls and remains trapped. The second hunter, however, manages to score 3 successes and will need additional extended rolls to meet the required 4 successes to force the path open. Until then, both hunters remain within the sealed alleyway, encumbered and unable to pursue Azazel any further.
